How do I know that a person is suffering from manic depression or, bipolar?

I have a classmate (female) who is bulling everybody from my class and some people who is older than her. At the first semester she was always crying in French class then, at the the second and third semester she beats me up for no reason and scares the s*** out of my classmates and friends. In my perspective she dosen't look normal and it is too impossible that she has a mental illness since all of us go to a private Roman Catholic College.

P.S. Some of my classmates and teachers tried to help her I think but, most of them either got beat up or had a nervous break-down

P.S.S?? How can I avoid her? Sometimes she stalks her victims.....and for protection I don't know any recreation centers that teaches karate or nin-jusu.......I have a social worker but, then she'd quit her job for no reason....the principal can't contact her parents because her father died from an unidentified illness and her mom is in the hospital due to an accident from a ski-doo trip....

first of all , being in a private roman catholic college doesnt mean that you can麓t have a mental illness , it just means that people can be more close minded about it . it seems that this girl is going through a really rough time , maybe a depression and she麓s taking it out on others . She might need some special attention but it seems like no one there can give it to her . i can understand why you麓d be afraid to try to talk to her , but there is definitely something wrong . She needs some help ASAP , what you need to understand here ( not that it is any excuse) is that everything she has gone through is making her act like that now . You see , when people hurt others , it麓s mostly out of ignorance or out of pain , not because they麓re really mean , so the next time you feel afraid of her , try to remember this ... and see if you can help her somehow , and if you can麓t , just try to avoid her, because it麓s not worth it if you can麓t help her and you麓re just getting yourself hurt in the process
first of all, why dou say that she cant have a mental illnes just becuase u atten a roman catholic college? it dosent matter, she may have one but maybe no one knows, and if she had a one i wouldnt blame her because of what she;s going through. that aint easy. and how come the teachers and principal dont do anything if ur in a roman catholic teachers? maybe u should talk to the teaches cuz it seems that the school is just ignoring all this.. of u ever get the chance to talk to this girl without getting beat, try to talk to her about her life. maybe she only wants someone to care

good luck
It is not impossible for ANYONE to suffer a mental illness. She sounds very angry to me. The fact that you are at a Roman Catholic college has no bearing on her mental status. I think the only way you can know for sure what mental illness she has is by recording her behavior and consulting a psychologist.

If she threatens you physically or harms you, you should report it to the police. You will not be able to avoid her unless you leave the school or she does. I do not understand why no one has filed a police report against her or gotten a restraining order due to her physical violence.
