Usually. Sometimes it takes up to two weeks to kick in. And over the course of your treatment, it may stop working. Go back then and see your doc. He may tweek your "cocktail" to have it remain effective for you.. Nothing works forever, and not for everyone. My husband is always trying to help his patients with their anti-depressant medications... and encourages them to come back if they notice a relapse in their depression despite taking an anti-depressant

good luck Source(s): dad and husband both mds.
Chemical treatment is a crutch, at best, giving you a brief respite from your problems so that you can create your own treatment plan and take action on it.

A good doctor will tell you he wants you on a psychotropic medication like Prozac for a short time, like around six weeks. If he tells you you will need it much longer (or forever!), run, don't walk away from him; he's probably in some drug company's back pocket, and more concerned about kickbacks than your well being.
personal experience
Prozac puts me in a damn good mood.
my doc just put me on lexapro for the same things.. let me know if the prozac works!
some but not alone
it may help to make problems easier to deal with
not a road I'd recommend going alone
