I believe that there is a definitive link between music and healing mental health problems like depression?

What songs or pieces of music have you found to alter yours, or someone you know, state of mind or mood. Have you, or someone you know found something musical that has helped alleviate a mental health issue and if so what was it.

It really depends on what I need to accomplish. I usually like 'Calypso' by John Denver. But sometimes I use 'Philadelphia Freedom' to rev up. Or if there's an especially nasty problem to tackle, I will play Pat Benatar's 'Invincible' or "Burning Heart' by Survivor.

But yes, studies have been done that indicate music has an effect on mental health. In fact, I once saw a movie- at least part of it- where different kinds of music were shown to have an effect on people suffering from catatonia. Keep in mind that I'm not sure if this was based on reality or not, but I can see how it might happen.
There are many songs during the healing process and they all are saying the words we need to hear.
I currently take depression medication on an as need basis (I had a baby, lol) and I discovered that the days that I sometimes need to take it are directly after the nights that I *don't* do my meditations. My favorite cd so far is Brain Power by Brain Sync.

this is true! how it works is when you concentrate on the melody you distract your mind from dwelling in the past, saying negative things about yourself and being anxious about the future...all of which are roots of depression. the key is finding music that feels good to you, that you want to follow and that will keep your mind present and out of the past and/or future. i find that classical style pieces help me the most. Liebstraum is my most favorite piece to listen to but more contemporary classical like yanni or jim brickman are great as well.
