Should I see if I have depression?

I have some really tough times sometimes and feel down for ages. Recently I was going through a bad time and felt like killing myself a lot. That month, all the fridays except one I felt suidical or just had thoughts. I did make an appointment to see if I have depression but cacnelled. Since then I've only been down once and have felt a lot happier. But I do know I should have got it checked, should I still or could things just be better now?

Depression is something that has different levels. If you think of it as being on a long line, and you are somewhere on that line, moving around from not depressed to somewhat depressed then more depressed. The extreme end would be depression with psychosis. Most depressed people do not get that serious. They are at the other end of the line. It may sound strange but you can be depressed for days and weeks and still function. A lot of people have a low level of depression called dysphoria.
On the other hand, the suicidal part of it makes it more serious. It gets even more serious if you start thinking of a plan. Many people think of suicide but never really carry it out. On the other hand some obviously do.
The fact that you report feelings of suicide means you should check this out. You are feeling better now but according to your history, you will again at some point feel depressed.
This is nothing to be ashamed of or to blame yourself for. Depression is a curable illness. Having an illness like this is just as valid as having a physical illness like diabetes. It is something that can get better. Please do yourself a favor and have this checked out by a mental health professional. Source(s): experienced mental health nurse practitioner
I encourage you to make the appointment again. You don't have anything to lose. Any time you think about suicide, it needs to be taken seriously.

If you feel this way again, please call 1-800-SUICIDE. There are people there who understand and are experts on these things. People want to help you.
You have to see a psychiatrist and take his/her prescribed medications, it is a rule out manic-depression.
thats how i was but i never made an appointment for a while i felt normal and all the ppl who thought i was a freak started to like me and i started to make friends now im twice as bad and sometimes im happy but wen i have my bad times it gets bed im really quit and dont like to be touched and as i said wen ppl talk to me i try to give the smallest fastest answer possible like if i talked it would hurt and thats really weird because wen im normal and all through out my life ive been a very talkative person.
