Dog Diabetes? |
My neghibors dog of 6 years has diabetes. He has had it for probally around 8 months. And he is as skinny as a bone, he eats alot, drinks alot, and has to go to the bathroom every 15 minutes. They give him insulin, as many units as the vet told them to give him. But the dog has not gained any weight. They only feed him dog food. But he steals human food. Such as pizza, and cookies, and will eat anything, packaging and all. My vet currently carries a food that he recommends for his diabetes patients. It is called Evo. www.evopet.com. Sadly, the dog is losing weight because it's blood sugar level is out of control. Put simply, the reason the dog is losing weight is because the cells of the dog can't utilise the sugar (glucose) in the bloodstream so, in effect, the dog is 'starving'. To combat this the dogs cells are utilising what food they can find elsewhere. It does this by using muscle and fat reserves. he might need more insulin did you feed him lunch meats? |
