Diabetes, Impotence and Vacuum Pumps?

Does anyone know the procedure for getting one of these vacuum pumps prescribed by a GP. Do they work? Are they better than the ones you can purchase in "private shops"? Any advice welcome - without being crude or vulgar please - this is a serious question about a very serious issue. Thanks.

Currently the GP prescribes medication to improve erections (similar to Viagra). He can get an erection but not maintain it and therefore intercourse is impossible. He can achieve ejaculation with or without medication. The vacuum pump that we have been told about that the GP can prescribe are a tube which causes a vacuum and you then slip on a ring to hold the blood inside the penis and therefore apparently being able to maintain an erection. His GP says he is going to do some more research but there is no point having one if it doesn't work. The one the second respondent refers to had the same effect on my partner but it was one from a "private shop" rather than a medically prescribed one and broke anyway! LOL

Your doctor is more likely to send you to a urologist who will prescribe what they call a dual chamber injection. It's injected into your penis and after a little massage you get a rock hard on that will last about an hour.

You need to explain more about the pump. What type of pump do you mean?
