Diabetes/Hypoglycemia tests?

I've been having terrible problems keeping my blood sugar up. I recently went to a "Doctor's Care" (not a family doctor or specialist) and asked them to check me for diabetes and/or hypoglycemia. I gave them the information they needed and I let them know how I feel when I don't eat every 3-4 hours. I let them know that my sugar was checked several times within 5 day and each time it was 24 or below. I also let them know that I had breakfast before the appointment (they told me to do that) and when they checked my sugar then it was 68. They said it was fine and that meant I don't have hypoglycemia.

They ran a test for diabetes and said I was borderline. No anemia present, either.

Is that all they do to conclude hypoglycemia? I thought there were some sort of tests or something other than just pricking my finger. And if I ate an hour and a half before, wouldn't that have affected it somehow? Why did they tell me to eat beforehand? Should I get a second opinion?

Just to add: After my blood sugar was tested those few times and it was below 24, one time I had coffee with a TON of sugar, and two candy bars, and it brought my sugar back up to 135. I don't know if that makes a difference, but I thought it'd be best to add that in anyway.

i have hypoglycemia and the tests are simple u can do them in a clinic or a hospital id recomend a clinic cause i work in them
it consits of like 6 hours u go they take ur blood pint 1 every hour no driving no doing like nething noooooo food for 24 hours b4 test and no water for 5 if i remember they will give u really tastey juice lol good luck

There is a test called Glucose tolerance test, which is many series of blood being drawn. I had one and it lasted about 6 hrs, you drink this drink (after fasting) then have your blod drawn every 30 to an hour after. You may want to request one of those to be sure...blood sugar of a 24 is VERY low.

For Hypoglycemia they have the GTT. I never took the GTT but got diagnosed as hypoglycemic based on my symptoms which are similar to yours. When I had my sugars tested fasting overnight they were normal but when I had the prick test at the drs about 4 hrs after eating, I was at 28 and he told me he didn't know how I was standing up. Basically, my sugars bounce all over the place based on what I've ate. Try to stay w/low carb/sugar and high protein meals/snacks and eat throughout the day (just decrease the portions of your main meals so your caloric intake doesn't go thru the roof). There is a reactive hypoglycemic board on yahoo where you can get more info (also a regular hypo board but that also includes diabetics and the info is a bit different than how you would treat reactive hypo- either way though you want to keep your sugar levels constant- candy & juice will give you a boost but you will end up crashing later)

Please go to a dr. That is very low!!!
