Diabetes, Type II? |
Hi in November of last year we found out that my husband has Don't use the Atkins diet. Many peoples ketones get out of range on this diet. Although that can be a good thing when you are trying to lose weight, its a very bad thing when you are diabetic. This diet has been under heavy discussion at some of the classes I went to, and our educator said it is not such a good diet for diabetics to follow. I think your husband just needs to keep working with his doctor. Sometimes, it can just take awhile to get everything right. I was diagnosed in December with many of the same problems. With diet and meds I have been able to get most everything under controll. I will be going back to the doctor soon and will ask to be taken off of the high blood pressure and cholesterol meds. If he has lost weight(if needed) and has his sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure under control ask his doctor if he can be taken off of some of the meds. I have been taken off isulin and placed on a different med so changes in my diet has paid off in that regard. Also make sure he is eating enough, sometimes we tend to over react and cut carbs completly out of our diets, and that can be harmful too. Work closely with his doctor and see a nutritionist if you are able to. Unfortunately if he's on all the usual medications that half the country is on for blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol, they have some really bad side effects. They make people sick. The "statin" drugs for cholesterol will permanently damage the muscles in your legs - that's only one fun side effect. And then there's little evidence that they actually do anything. Since he's taking meds for 3 different conditions it's hard to know what the problem is. My husband has had to change his med for cholesterol several times due to fatigue and muscle aches. Any med can cause nausea. It can be very frustrating but telling his doctor how he feels and trying different meds is the only way to get to the bottom of it. Tell him not to give up -- eventually he'll find the answer and he'll feel good again. I hope that happens soon. You really should seek medical help through his doctor or a hospital..My grandma, grandpa, mom and aunts and uncles that have diabetes and its nothing to mess with..They have had their meds changed often and never had these problems,so there could be other problems they are not seeing. It may take several trips to the doctors or more than one doctor, but this is something that you really need to looked into the quicker the better! If he is taking a medicine for cholesterol like a ---statin Avoid sugar and high amounts of carbohydrates. Eat balanced meals with whole grain carbs at regular times. Losing weight helps control diabetes and high blood pressure. Don't eat late. |
