Getting tested for diabetes in a week, but in the meantime...? |
Is honey a good alternative to sugar or should I stay away from both? If I eat a lot of sweets one day, the next day I feel like junk...super thirsty, tired and kind of loopy. Can anyone give me a good website for meal ideas...just something to help me feel better for this next week. Splenda (sucralose) makes me sick to my stomach and I've had major issues w/aspartame as well..guess I'll have to just go without sweets. I'm not necessarily "treating a disease" just trying not to feel so crappy all the time... No, honey is still sugar. You should use sugar substitutes so you don't shoot your blood sugar up. Try Splenda. Also, avoid eating a lot of carbs, especially white, refined ones, like white bread, white rice, sugar, etc ... Eat lean proteins, complex carbs, and veggies (limit fruit for now, because they have a lot of sugar in them). You will find that each food has a number of carbs and you will only be able to eat so many grams of carbs per meal. Your doctor will sit down and discuss this with you more fully. Below are some diabetic diet resources. Good luck! You could try other artificial sweeteners like Equal or Sweet n Low. Too bad you have problems with Splenda, because it seems to be the artificial sweetener of choice in most diet or diabetic products these days. Report It Before you go crazy...talk to your doctor about the "crappy" feeling you get and if your getting tested next week, eating different now wont change the results. (its a three month blood test right?) If your not able to wait...cut out the sweets till you see your doctor and see if that helps. stick to low carb meals. BUT you HAVE to have some carbs. I use splenda as a sugar substitute because honey still has a lot of sugar in it. There ar a ton of sugar substitutes, you can find them all in the store. Do not treat a disease you have not been diagnosed with. |
