Worried about diabetes...?

I don't really know too much about it, though lately I feel I've been having way more than my share of sugar products...2-3 soda's a day, 41g a soda...123 grams a day of sugar...Well that can't be good. I'm 15 and I play lacrosse and football so it's not like I'm sitting around (although it is the break between the sports...). What do you think?

Thanks guys, makes me feel better for sure...My Dad has type-2, but he only developed it recently and other than that I don't recall anyone else having it...I do drink alot of the crap, but I've recently switched to this seltzer like substance called Sam's Choice Clear American...No sugars or anything, though the after-taste leaves something to be desired, but I guess it's better than being obese!

Sugar in your diet doesn't cause diabetes. Diabetes is inherited or caused from other unknown causes. They have only theories. Eating too much sugar however is bad for your teeth (tooth decay), can cause overweight. Although it is true later in life, eating lots of sugar and junk foods can lead to obesity and inactivity (which is a cause for type 2 diabetes). But that is not something that will not happen at your age. Switch to diet soda or healthier drinks. Bottled water, Gatorade, milk, etc.

Eating too much sugar DOES NOT cause diabetes!

However, being overweight does increase your risk for developing type 2 diabetes. If you have a history of diabetes in your family, eating a healthy meal plan and regular exercise are recommended to manage your weight.

Your chances are pretty low.. you need to be obese, but honestly, even if you're active, why are you eating and drinking that crap in the first place?!

Stick to water! The most often I get pop is drinking, with hi balls, but you're 15, so you have awhile.

Is it in your family at all?
