Are diabetes and hypertension reversible? What does diabetic by definition mean? |
I heard Dr. Oz recently on Oprah show saying "both are reversible". Are they truly reversible? Are they reversible if medicine not started or even after starting medicine? I was recently diagnosed with a high FBS. My FBS became consistently high three times. It was 190 the first time. then 180 and 160, but reduced when I started carb free and low carb diets. Now I take cakes once a week or so. I take orange likewise. I take a couple beers once a week. I take two glasses of wines every other day. The Doc said to me, "you are a type 2 diabetic by definition". I don't take medicine, but my sugar level when I periodically check it is within the normal range. I see the Doc once a month. She checks my FBS and then tells me to see her after a month. It is now the 5 month. I live in Africa. The Doc is too African. But a good one by my evaluation. My fear is as there are less Docs in Africa they are busy and may not have time to update themselves. This is a statement of fact, NOT RACISM Yes, I'm living proof that they are... Despite what those sadly misinformed folks here might try to get you to believe. Just don't confuse "reversible" with "curable". They're not the same. This guy reverses type two diabetes ALL THE TIME!... including me: http://www.drfuhrman.com/ It depends on what TYPE of diabetes you are diagnosed with. Diabetes brought on by lifestyle choice IS reversible with an improved diet + exercise. Some consider this "managing" your diabetes. We are talking LIFESTYLE CHANGE that includes a commitment to a healthy lifestyle. If one commits to this lifestyle change, the symptoms are greatly improved (if not completely resolved) and personally, I consider that to be reversing the disease! Sadly these are not reversible conditions. hi you in relation to diabetes once you have diabetes you have it for life i think you may not have taken that doctor up right. a diabetic more over if it is type 2 that has good control over there diabetes can bring to a point where they dont need meds and control it with a good diet and live a very normal live as if they never had diabetes but diabetes is something you have for life once you get it ok, i was type 2 insulin dependant diabetic, and suffered acute hypertension.. i lost 34 kilos with weight watchers and now i no longer require insulin and do not suffer hypertension at all! i have no symptoms of either condition, however i have some kidney damage due to being diabetic previously. my pancreas now works fine and as far as i am aware i no longer have type2 diabetes. diabetes is when your pancreases dose not produce incline, you can not reverse the disease , but the symptoms can be reduced. I hate when people say these things. It give people false hopes. Diabetes, either type, CAN NOT be reversed. They can be controlled. Type one is insulin dependent and is a lifetime event. Type 2 can be controlled by diet and exercise, SOMETIMES, but later in life it usually requires some kind of medication.Type 2 is also for life. You don't get rid of it Your doctor means you are type 2. You have all the higher blood sugars and all the other tests say you are type 2. You are one of the ones that can contoll with diet and exercise, but your disease will never go away, no matter what you do. To the answer above, I also controlled mine with diet and exercise and did not have to take medications any more. But over time my body changed, and here I am on insulin and other drugs. Don't let your diet get out of control, it's too hard some times to get it back in where it needs to be. The carbs in beer can raise your blood sugars, so don't drink much of it. You need to watch the carbs and get daily exercise. If you don't watch your diet you will end up taking medication. |
