Diabetes insipidus? What does it mean to not have sweet urine? |
Does it mean that my urine doesn't taste sweet? Diabetes insipidus is caused by a lack of regulation of ADH or antidiuretic hormone. This allows for excessive amounts of urine to leave the body. This is known as polyuria. Diabetes mellitus also has this symptom but it is related to a different mechanism than diabetes insipidus (excess glucose attracts water and leads to excessive urine leaving the body) Most people 'don't' have sweet uring. Diabetes was first found by romans who believed urin held a healing quality so they'd drink it and pour it on their bodies. They noticed that occasionaly some of the urin had a sweet taste to it. The reason it has this sweet taste is becuase sugar in diabetic's cna't be broken down normally so the body tries to excrete it through the urine. You shou'dnt have sweet urine if your bodys working normal. |
