Diabetes insipidus and pregnancy? |
I was diagnosed with diabetes inspidus when I was about 3yrs old. I'm 20 now so DI has pretty much been a big (but routine) part of my life. Now that I am sexually active, I've wondered if there are things about sex/pregnancy I should consider because I have DI... like whether or not it's even advisable that I have kids in the future, etc. Diabetes insipidus has nothing to do with diabetes. Diabetes insipidus causes my body to not retain water. So if I don't take my medication, whatever fluids I drink will be flushed out of my system within 30min-1hr. I wouldn't think you would have a problem with it. I'm not certain which form of DI you have, but I'll assume it's central DI and you're taking a synthetic form of vasopressin for it. I believe that your dose of medication may be increased if you become pregnant, but I believe that becoming pregnant would be safe. You must talk to a few doctors before considering pregnancy. I have DI and I asked my doctor the same thing (not that i want kids-im only 16) but i dont think it affects ur child, however im not 100% sure. Go online and check it out. |
