Diabetes Question.. 17 year old female?

I jus tlooked up the symptoms of diabetes and this is what it said

Some diabetes symptoms include:

* Frequent urination
* Excessive thirst
* Extreme hunger
* Unusual weight loss
* Increased fatigue
* Irritability
* Blurry vision

I have excessive thirst lately, sometimes extreme hunger but thats not that big, increased fatigue, (again a little irritability nothing major).. but the big one the last month I have been complaining of bad vision all of a sudden when I was driving and at school when taking notes and trying to see the board (I've had 20/20 all my life) I'm going to get checked but what if i have diabetes! What kind of lifestyle changes will I have to make!!

also i'm not sure if my weight has anything to do with it? im 5'6 and 128 ? so i'm not obese (reading a site and it says occurs a lot in obese people)

I found out I had diabetes last year. I'm 18 now. First, I constantly felt fatigued. I was really sick all of the time, especially if I forgot to eat a snack or something throughout the day. I went to the doctor to see what was up, and they said that I had type 2 Diabetes. Also, I had to get glasses for vision, and I've always had 20/20 vision.

After I did bloodwork and the usual doctor check up thing(peeing in a up), I found out like 2 days later after the lab work had been sent in.

I've had to make a lot of changes. Its diet mostly. I have to eat healthier and exercise more. I have to make sure to plan on eating and check my blood glucose levels often. There are a lot of changes, but if you ARE diagnosed with Diabetes, you will probably have to go through classes for it, which was a two day thing for me. It was boring, but I got A LOT out of it., They tell you what to eat, and how often to eat. They help you through it.

There are two different types of diabetes. Type 1 - Which is primarily insulin dependent. And Type 2 - Which still has some insulin dependents but not as much as Type 1.

I hope that helped a bit. If you have any more questions or just need to talk, message me on yahoo IM. AtheniaStarr is my name. :-)

Make sure you get checked, and if it is true, take care of yourself!

ALSO- Diabetes does occur in obese people, but many skinny people have it as well!!! I have friends that are twigs that either have Type 1 or Type 2! Just get checked!

You can live a normal live with diabetes. You just need to follow what your physicians plans for you and make dietary changes.

All those symptoms are signs of many other illnesses though and alot of them are not serious. Get it checked out before you jump too conclusions.

Good luck.

Talk to your parents about your concern and symptoms and ask them to get you checked for it. If you do have it you don't want to wait till your in the hospital. The American diabetes web site has some good info on both main types of diabetes, it's www.diabetes.org, good luck.

Check your blood sugar. You learn to avoid sugar and eat healthy.
