Diabetes and tatoos..?

my husband wants to get a tatoo but he is diabetic.. i really don't want him to get one .. but he is insisting on getting one.. is there any risk for him??

Depends on if he heals normally - If not this could be a bad idea. It would also depend on location - it would be much better to do it on torso or upper arm than an extremity and would definitely be a worse idea to get it on foot or ankle.

It would be dangerous if he was on coumadin or another blood thinner.

i am a diabetic and have a tattoo, and getting more. as long as he heals normally everything should be fine. he should not get one on his legs tho, and i know some tattoo shops actually won't do tattoos on the lower body of a diabetic because they don't want to be responsible if something happens. they specifically ask on the sheet they need you to sign if you are a diabetic. and even tho i'm in good control, my artist still wouldn't do one on my leg.

Hi. I am a 27 year old female who has had diabetes since the age of two and a half. I agree with the other person who answered the question, there could be problems if your husband doesn't heal properly or gets an infection. But in my opinion I don't believe there are any risks in getting a tattoo when you have diabetes. My blood sugars have been poorly controlled and I had no problem when healing from a tattoo.

If his disease is in good control, yes, he can get a tattoo. I got one and know many diabetics that have gotten them. Keeping it clean until it heals is extremely important though, and only go to a very reputable tattoo shop. Make sure they use new needles and paint pots.

There is always a risk of infection, with both diabetics and non diabetics. If his levels are well controlled and he takes good care of himself, he should be fine.
