Diabetes Cake Ideas???? |
A friend of mine and her family have been helping us out so much lately. So we decided to invite them for dinner. Hey Charli mu Dad id diabetic and this is the website i use when they come for dinner You can alter any cake recipe to make it diabetic friendly (and just more healthy). Replace the sugar with Splenda and replace the oil with applesauce or canned pumpkin. Also, the white flour is almost as bad as sugar so I use whole grain wheat in my recipes. It is a bit denser but my family likes the flavor and it doesn't wreak havoc with blood sugar. You can also use egg substitute in place of eggs. Works just the same. Most diabetics eat sugared things, just in moderation. But to be safe, you could make an angel food cake and cover it with strawberries or berries mushed up with a little Splenda or Equal. Another option is to do a plain yellow cake or strawberry cake bundt-style and drizzle an icing over it that is 1/2 powdered sugar and 1/2 Splenda mixed with just enough water to make it drizzle. Sugar-free Jello with fresh fruit (berries are in season and a good choice) topped with whipped cream. To make it a little fancier, you can layer the jello, fruit and whipped cream. Being a type 1 diabetic, I have found multiple good low carbohydrate recipes for diabetics at http://www.lowcarbluxury.com/lowcarb-rec... Its not cake but it is good for diabetes since there is no carbohydrates - Sugar free jello (whichever flavor you prefer) with Cool Whip. Try this link, it has heaps of recipes for diabetics angel food cake with cut up strawberries- but of course no sugar. i think splenda is ok if you need to sweeten it a little get the splenda dessert cookbook It's kind of a lose lose situation because they can't have a lot of sugar, but artificial sweeteners can have a bad long term effect on health. Diabetics (both type 1 and 2) can enjoy occasional treats. If the family suffers from type 2, then you might consider something like Angel-food cake. That way, they can enjoy more than just a bite. |
