Diabetes and hunger?

I was just recently diagnosed with type 2 less than a month ago. the nasty symptoms such as the yeast, thirst and frequent urination have gone, but sometimes i find myself extremely hungry not too long after I've eaten a meal. maybe 45-to an hour afterwards, and it's real naw your belly hunger. what is the deal with this?

hunger is usually a sign of high blood sugar, in 45 minutes your insulin hasn't had time to lower the blood sugar from your last meal.....try to fight these cravings.....or eat something very low in carbs.

Are you getting enough to eat at your meals?? Many diabetics that are recently diagnosed try so hard to keep a tight diet, that they are not getting enough to eat at a meal. You should also make sure your meals have fiber and protein, this will help you feel full. If your are hungry later, have a healthy snack, low in carbs. If your disease is not under good control yet, it will be very common to have the hunger.

The deal is elevated serum insulin due to insulin resistance, a hall mark of type 2 disease. (High serum insulin is The Major Cause of being hungry).

Biguanides handle this (eg. Metformin) while sulfonylureas don't.

You should be on at least glucophage and one of the Glitazones. If you're taking insulin, you either don't need it or you're on way too much.

could be a side effect of the meds for diabetes,...I currently have the opposite problem-not much appetite.
When i was first diagnosed, the doc put me on avandia + my appetite was robust---but my blood sugar would take huge nose dives down into the 50's with just a little physical exertion (like shopping). my new doc put me on metformin + now i have no real appetite but i can feel my blood sugar dropping gradually (not all at once). Best thing to do is talk to your doc. & then maybe a nutritionist!

are you sticking to the well known Low Fat food plan?? If you are doing very low fat, YES you will stay hungry.

40% protein, 30% Fats, and 30% carbs is a good balance. I eat only the saturated fats on meats, butter, and whole milk. I never get the fat free or reduced fat foods.

Lots of salad with real dressing on the side. I don't know why everyone wants us to do away with fats when they are what gives us satiety in eating so we eat less and feel full.
