Diabetes info please?

What should/shouldn't a diabetic eat? Is there a guideline to go by? Any good detailed websites I can search at?

Diabetics shouln't eat many carbohydrates such as breads, potatoes, rice, pasta and they should also avoid anything with a high amount of sugar in it's makeup.Any food containing sugars above 6 grams would not be beneficial to a Diabetic. You can have foods and drinks that are sweetened artificially. If you want to eat breads you can eat 7 grain bread. You can have protein rich foods, fish, meats, and most of all, lots of vegetables.Chocolate and candy is not good for Diabetics.

good luck

The best guideline to go by is your blood glucose meter. You should test your blood glucose before and after each meal.

Many diabetics start out by limiting their carbohydrate intake to 45 grams per meal. If you find that your blood sugar is too high two hours after eating a meal containing 45 grams of carbohydrates, then you should lower your per-meal carb intake, change the types of carbs you're eating (from those that raise your blood glucose quickly to others that don't), and/or increase your fat and/or protein intake with the carbs (this slows down your digestion of the carbs and gives your insulin more time to do its job). Also, make sure your pre-meal blood glucose wasn't high to begin with.

Sweets (cakes, cookies, candy, etc.), "white foods" (potatoes, white bread, rice, pasta, etc.) and some fruits are examples of foods that raise most diabetics' blood glucose very quickly. Low glycemic foods are a better choice (search the web or check books for the "glycemic index").

Many diabetics (me included) are of the opinion that the American Diabetes Association gives bad advice, and don't recommend their website. Their recommendations for blood glucose levels, and the carb content of their recipes, are awfully high.

Well I don't know everything but I know a little bit cause 2 of my cousins have Diabetes,
1) your doctor should tell you a little bit
2)the lower the carbs the better carbs are your enemy
3) try sugar free stuff
4)keep lifesavers or something in your bag in case your blood sugar gets really low
5)don't eat to much candy
6)keep a bag for your Diabetes stuff and carry it around with you just in case

hey, its polarissucks, if you are a diabetic things with lots of sugars, natural or unatural doesnt matter, you shouldnt eat, also foods that will raise your insulin levels like bananas, umm juices and things like that. you should try and consume lots of water. good luck

As long as it is not too many carbs you are fine. You need to eat normal(fruits, vegies, bread, milk, meat, ect.), just not too many sweets. As a diabetic, you do not want to eat too much, which is why we eat portion sized meals.

Avoid sugar and high amounts of carbohydrates. Eat balanced meals with whole grains at regular times. Losing weight helps control diabetes.

have a look on www.jdrf.co.uk or www.diabetic.co.uk these sites are from the diabetic association in britian
