Question on diabetes?(sorry if miss spelled)? |
my bfs mom has diabetes and i cant remember what your blood sugar is supposed to be at i think it is like 100 or something like that and for the last at least 2 years it has been over 1000 for her. do you think she will die soon? any info will help on the subject. she told me that herself Sorry, she is definately pulling your leg. Either that or she doesn't know what she is talking about!! As a previous post stated, home glucose monitors do not read over 600. And if she is 1000, then she needs to contact Guiness World Records for living the longest with blood sugars that high! 1000? Most home monitors will not register a sugar reading that high. How do you know it is that high? It isn't uncommon for diabetics that don't take care of themselves... to run sugars of 800 + -- they don't necessarily die right away; but, they are killing themselves. Every organ in the body is affected every time your blood sugar is over 240. Period. Even if is just a short time... it damages your body. Living with a blood sugar level of that extreme will land your bff mom on a dialysis machine... or a surgical table having a bipass. A diabetic has to help themself but you can be supportive. Offer to arrange for them to go to a doctor... check out a book from the library that explains diabetes. Do what you can for her. If she has been running 1000, she would have been dead long ago. I don't know where you're getting that information but home gloucose meters do not go higher than 600. The only way she would know that it is 1000 is through a blood test. Sugar totals change continously throughout the day as well. She really needs to see a doctor. Again, I don't see how your're getting this information (unless your bf is exaggerating to get his point across). If it was at 1,000, she's very lucky that she's alive now--100 is about normal, and anything over 200 is considered very bad--I have mild diabetes, and the highest I've ever seen mine is 170. Our dog has it too, and we found out when we took her to the vet and it was over 300! My father recently was on steroids which caused his to go over 500, and the only reason the doctors were not changing his meds was because it was controlling his gout, which was causing him intense pain throughout his body. If she's at 1,000, she needs immediate care, and they'll probably put her on heavy doses of insulin ASAP. 1000! are you kidding me thats way to high it could kill her! her blood sugar is supposed to be between 80-100 nothing much higher or lower but for diabetics it isnt supposed to be higher than 200 even acording to medical records but being just alittle over that wouldnt kill you. To be 1000 is seriously way to high and if she is 1000 or over you seriously need to help her! I may not be a doctor but i am fortunate that my folks raise me in a way to keep me healthy when i was young. now im 43. diabetes is caused by sugar and beans for short. avoid softdrinks, alcohol drinks, any food that has beans as components. any beans is a Big no no. cakes and ice cream is a big no no too. Again, keep daily exercise like treadmill or simply walking just to perspire. if c drinks cofee pls avoid sugar. try splenda instead. and lastly, Avoid STRESS. omg yes thats bad!was that a typeo??? she should be like in a coma or something! if it has been that high for that long it could cause more health problems almost everyone in my family is a diabetic and yea i think its suposed to be like around 100....that is really bad she really should to see a doctor asap....! I'm hoping 1000 was a typo, becuase if her sugar levels were that high, she would be dead by now. 70-100 is normal for fasting, 100-125 is normal for 2 hours or more after meals. Sugar levels should never be higer than 200, no matter when you test. Her blood glucose isn't 1000, she would be dead by now if it were, or at least in a coma. She's mistaken. Many diabetics are not in tune with what their blood glucose numbers are...for a diabetic, we shoot for 80-110 before meals, and 100-140 after meals. |
