I was gestationally diabetic with all three of my pregnancies.

The first went undetected until she was born with Bells Palsy and was LGA whenever I was measured. She also was born early and crashed when she was born. That's the only way they knew I was gestational.

I slid right under the radar with her in terms of my one-hour GTT.

My second I began spilling glucose and protein in my urine at four months gestation (I had had 3 miscarriages before these two - all terminated right before the beginning of my 2nd trimester - doctors then assumed it was because of the diabetes). I began insulin right away, and he was my easiest birth.

My third I again slid under the radar until the 7th month, and I began insulin at 8 mos. He was 9 lbs., 7 oz. and had shoulder dystocia also.

Each one of my pregnancies was different, and each one my sugars reacted differently. None of it was successively worse or gradually increasing.

My A1c didn't go down until I lost weight. As long as I maintained a weight below 170 (at 5' 5"), my A1c was typical (5 or below) - it took some time for my A1c to go down (a year maybe).

I was able to control any diabetic symptoms or prediabetes throughout my 30s, but the weight slowly crept back up, and at 42, was diagnosed Type II.

And I had undeniable symptoms. And it runs in my family pretty heavily.

That doesn't mean it will happen to you. But if you can, keep up your exercise and weight control.

I made this my full-time job until I went back to graduate school and my kids became teenagers, and now, while I am on a lower dose of glucose controlling medication, it's just outside my grasp - my control of my heredity and my genes.

-----No, you will be at incresed risk, but that is why you have to maintain healthy lifestyle practices.

---Not necessarily worse, but chances are you will have it with each pregnancy, it is related to the hormone changes. Just be very aware of your diet and exercise, do as your Dr and diabetic educator advise and it can be a fairly smooth pregnancy and delivery.

My mom had gestational diabetes and became a diabetic 11 yrs later but diabetes runs in our family. If you take care of yourself and watch what you eat and your weight you can reduce the risk, do not consider yourself domed just take care of yourself and your baby right now. No one can predict the future if you will become a diabetic later on just live a healthy happy life. If you have gestational diabetes, your risk of developing type 2 diabetes in the future is 5 to 50 percent. Therefore, you should have a two-hour 75-gram oral glu颅cose tolerance test (OGTT) six to ten weeks after delivery.

First congratulations mommy,,,, I had gest. diabetes with 2 of my 4 preg.s and as of 24 years after the birth of my first have yet to get diabetes. As the others say just live sensibly and in moderation and you should be fine. Just enjoy your baby now and stay healthy.
