Any one with type 2 diabetes ever stop taking your Glucophage? & what happened? |
very good friend of family recently told by doc he has type 2 diabetes he took meds, but blood pressue went up, he has not taken it for a week now and blood sugar is correct and he is not feeling funny behind drug any more. hi you Glucophage/Metformin is a systemic drug. It takes about 3 weeks for it to become fully effective in the body and another 3 weeks to wear back off when quitting it. Unfortunately, high blood sugar often goes hand in hand with high B/P. It is just another complication of having this disease He should not stop his glucophage without a consult with the doctor. Most people have very little side effects from taking this medication after the first few weeks. Maybe your friend has changed his diet as well and that is helping keep his blood sugar down? Diet and exercise can sometime be enough and no medication is needed. I would highly recommend that before depending on medication. your friend is in denial...eventually it will catch up with him, his blood sugars will go up, and he will feel worse. |
