Sugar free juice before blood test for diabetes? Will it affect the test?

I didn't eat for 12 hours before the test but I did drink a very weak sugar free juice - probably a stupid question but I'm not sure - Will it affect the test??

A wise lady like you should surely avoid such stupidity.

What can affect the blood test read here at http://www.helpondiabetes.com

Juice of any sort sugar added or not will effect any blood test!!!

According to one nurse you shouldn't even have plain water!! and should be fasting for more than the 12 hours.

According to another you may have plain water, but nothing else.

Juice is metabolized or used by the body really fast, especially when fasting!!

and most of the "leeches" in the "blood suckers union" think 8 hours fasting is sufficient. Over that and the liver kicks into overdrive and signals the bod to flood the starvation with stored glucose!!! Not good either!!!

definitions:
leeches = hematologists or those who draw blood.
blood suckers union = the lab where the hematologists work.

Yeah!! you just screwed up the blood draw! You will have to wait another month and have it done again!!!

This is important:

Just because a food or drink says that it is sugar free does not mean that it doesn't contain carbohydrates.

Carbohydrates directly affect your blood sugar, so chances are that the juice may have been "no sugar added", which has almost the same amount of carbohydrates as juice that does have sugar added.

I suggest you try testing your blood sugar again and only drink water if you are thirsty before testing.

Sugar free does not mean carb free, and a lot of things that say sugar free still have a lot of carbs in it. It is the carbs that raise blood sugar so look at the label on the product and see how many carbs are in it. It may or may not affect the test. If you have diabetes and your lab test is very high then the juice would not have made that much difference. Tell your Dr. that you drank juice and how much carb was in it and see if they want to re test.

It may...the wise thing to do would be to call the lab that does your bloodwork and ask them whether it makes any difference. If it will affect the test enough they may have you reschedule it. Also it depends on when you drank it and how much you had.

It will mess up your results. Before fasting glucose test you can only drink water if required.

You have to to take the test again.

It most definitely affects your test. Carbs are there in abundance.
A new test is in order. Did you not tell the doctor or nurse?

At least you will know the next time.
