Diabetes: Should I start medication?

My A1c tests says I don't need medication YET! My Dr. says meds would make me feel better. Should I start the medication or stay off it as long as possible. Many thanks for your advice again

I think the best thing to do would be find out what medications he would like to prescribe to you, and find out the possible side effects. If those are something that you feel that you can cope with or trade off for feeling slightly better than start the meds. If no then wait until your A1c comes back that you need more aggressive treatment!!

Hope this helps!!

A1c test results don't ever say a person needs meds!!! NOT EVER!!!

Test results don't talk back, they don't tell us what to do. they are just the results of the testing.

In this case it is the percentage of glucose molecules clinging to the red blood cells averaged for the last 90 days, with emphasis on the last 30.

Medication doesn't hurt, it can bring the numbers quickly into control without doing any damage to your system like it would if you just piddle around some more.

A friend of mine is very fond of saying "any number over 126 is doing heavy damage to the tiny nerve endings and blood vessels in your eyes, fingers and toes! Just think of what it is doing to other places like your heart and lungs, or your liver and kidneys."

Doctors are becoming very aggressive about keeping the numbers as close to normal as possible. Normals are 65 to 100!!

Kidney damage is equal to dialysis in the future!
Nerve damage in toes is equal to losing them due to gangrene!
Nerve or blood vessel damage in eyes is blindness!!

Want to risk any of the above??

I have a friend who has diabetes, and I'm not sure on the specifics of either of your conditions, but she is on an insulin pump, and she says it's tons better than 3 shots a day.

If you have to get medicine, try to get a pump.
Also, she feels fine, so if it's going to make you feel better, I would get medication

Listen to your doctor...if they want you on meds, then try the meds!

If you are reluctant to do so, then please at least speak to your MD about the type of diet they suggest. Usually they will support your choice to TRY managing with diet & exercise before pushing you for medications.

Or, like my brother did - he was so scared when he learned he had diabetes, he just started eating a balanced diet, and now his diabetes is completely controlled.

try not to get on medication
try the raw food diet and cure yourself of diabetes

try the meds out.
