What is type 1 diabetes cuz my boyfriend has it nd i dont know what is it?

he just told me he had it what is it i tryed looking it up but dont understand it hes 15 turnin 16

Everyone needs insulin. Sugar + insulin = fat cells. Need both ingredients. Your boyfriend can't make insulin anymore. Since he can't process food without it, he has to inject it; otherwise, he'll actually starve to death despite the fact that he's eating. (Without insulin, the body doesn't recognize that he ate anything.)

Type 1 diabetics become such a couple of different ways - - one way is genetics (very direct - parent/child, sibling/sibling). More often though, the body erroneously identifies the insulin making cells (islet cells) as enemy or foreign cells, and destroys them (kind of the way they do when you have a cold... it's why your cold goes away). This is often, but not always, preceded by an indeterminate virus. By indeterminate, I mean it's not the same virus from person to person, nor is the length of time between virus and diabetes onset.

It's onset had nothing to do with what he ate, or how often he exercised. There is nothing a person can do to bring on, prevent, reverse, invoke or negate the onset of type 1 diabetes.

I'm sorry about his recent diagnosis, I really am. The best thing you can do for him is exactly what you're doing. Taking that initiative, "Okay, what do I need to know," is just what he needs.

Type I diabetes used to be called Juvenile Diabetes. It primarily affects children and is inherited (genetic). It almost always requires the person to inject himself with insulin because the pancreas does not work properly (i.e., the cells do not secrete insulin in response to blood sugar levels like they do in a non-diabetic).

Type 1 diabetes, also called juvenile diabetes or insulin dependent diabetes, is a disorder of the body's immune system--that is, its system for protecting itself from viruses, bacteria or any "foreign" substances.
