Can you have normal sugar with type 1 diabetes?

What I mean is:

If you have type 1 diabetes, is it okay to eat candy? I know you're not supposed to have regular soda, but you can still have diet soda right? Can you have junk food like cheeseburgers, milkshakes, and french fries? Also, can you have cupcakes and cake? One more quick question, can you have sushi??? Please reply, it's really important and all the doctor ever says are big words I don't understand! Thanks for your help....if you try to answer this question please answer all of it, not just part! Thanks soooo much again!!! :)

A Calorie from sugar is no different than a Calorie from a potato or rice, as far as your body is concerned. Period.

You simply have to keep track of ALL carb Calories... whether they're sugar or starch.

You can eat pretty much anything you want as long as you have enough insulin to process the resultant glucose that is converted from the food you eat. You really need to learn all you can about glycemic index and glycemic load.

You should always remember this, though. Avoid giving up healthy Calories in favor of unhealthy Calories. In other words an apple, with it's 85 Calories, is far better than a Glucerna bar, with it's 150 Calories.

First, you need to ask your doctor to explain your instructions in a way that you can understand. Tell them that you aren't sure what they mean and it is important that you know. If they don't want to take the time to help you, then you need a different doctor who cares about you.

Second, you need to find out what level they want you to try to maintain your blood sugar (glucose). I am sure you can eat some things in small quantities but you have to monitor yourself. It is probably better if you go for sugar free candies. I think you can still have diet soda as long as it is sugar free.

i think you should follow the regiement your doctor has you on and keep taking your med every thing in moderation

sadly its not. go for sugar free candy they are just as good.
