If you have type 2 diabetes, is it possible to then later get type 1?

I have diabetes so please let me know. Thanks a bunch. =)

If you are type 2, you will always be type 2. Even if you become dependent on insulin later in your life. There is no such thing as going from one type to another. It is very, very common for type 2 diabetics to have to take insulin. It is because their pancreas has stopped making insulin or is only making very little.
w2r65 is wrong. So is nah Z

You got some bad info here. Bundy's dead-on right. He shouldn't have gotten downthumbed.

You can't switch types, but you can become insulin dependent as a type 2 diabetic (all type 1s are insulin dependent). As a type 2, the best way to avoid this to be vigilant with your diet, exercise and overall management.

yes, you can.. Type one is simply ..you don't produce insulin.. Type 2 you don't have enough insulin receptors or you have a problem with insulin resistance... I was a type 2 for 30 years.. When oral medications no longer worked for me.. a test was done to determine if I produced any insulin. The test showed I produced very little insulin.. The fact that my pancreas produces little or no insulin makes me a type one diabetic..Added to that I am a little overweight so then it I am considered a type one with some insulin resistance. i've been on insulin now for the last 10 years.............

Yes, left unchecked it can progress to type I at which point your pancreas pretty much gives up on you and you are completely unable to regulate your blood sugar levels.

With type two, it can still be somewhat working, but somehow impared, or bogged down by excess weight and work.

My Endocrinologist specializing in diabetology has been warning me about this for eons.

Yes, although the combination is usually a type 1 diabetic becoming overweight and developing type 2 diabetes, it's certainly possible for it to be the other way around- quite rare, but possible all the same.

No, but you can regress to requiring insulin injections, even though you're type 2.

yes there's a possibility

I think there is always a risk but I will still recommend you to ask a doctor
