What can be done for type 1 diabetes?

I work with a guy who's 31, and he's had it since he was 10. Anyway, any advice on what he can do to live a longer, healthier life. He doesn't have internet or insurance right now. He's paying for the shots out of pocket. Any advice you have would be very helpful.

Thank you

It is absolutely vital that he monitor his blood sugar levels several times a day,....if his sugar levels are too high it will do long term, and irreperable damage to many vital organs. Go to your local health department and get as much information as you can in the form of pamphlets for your friend,...and you if you want to help,..can do lots of reasearch to help him online,...there are thousands of websites dedicated to Diabetes. My husband is a diabetic, has been since he was 15, and he is now 39,...we have been married 18 years, and he maintains very good control over his blood sugar, and has not suffered any decline in his health beacause of this....good luck :0)

He already knows what to do: control diet, test blood sugar regularly, take insulin. That plus all the things which are recommended to everyone for healthy living: exercise, rest, no smoking, moderate or no alcohol, etc.

If he needs financial help to pay the doctor and to get supplies, the source may help.

tell him to have a good long read around the dietary aspect of the problem including women's magazines to get a grasp of the psychology of dieting - remember any diet that has high levels of exercise is going to fail and likewise you will fail unless you run a future diary for food
