Can you recieve disabillity benefits for diabetes? |
Type 1 diabetes. No, not for just the diagnosis of diabetes. However, you can receive disability benefits for other impairments that generally accompany diabetes, if they are severe enough to interfere with your ability to work. Not just because you have diabetes, if you are reasonably healthy and able to work. If it has progressed to the point of amputating limbs or needing kidney dialysis, then that is a possibility. But you will have to provide proof from a doctor that you cannot hold down a regular job. That's what disability payments are for...a safety net if you are physically or mentally unable to work. Im not a MD, but I would say very difficult.beacuse in general, there are many ways to control type 1 diabetes. Depends on your age, and if you already have other med conditions or damage from high blood sugar over time(kidneys, circulation, eyesight) I would tell you that your case is going to be tough unless your MD certifies that you are taking medications and your diabetes is NOT under control No!! If you are doing anything to control the diabetes, for example diet, exercise, meds, then no! For simply being diabetic? no. Diabetes is not necessarily a debilitating disease, especially if well controlled. If it is severe and affects daily activities to an extreme and you have several diabetes related complications, it may be possible. I believe so given the information in this link i think you can. not positive but somewhat sure. if it interferes with your daily life, you might be able to. Not unless you have loss a limb or eyesite from it. |
