Anyone with Type 1 Diabetes and then also developed Coeliac Disease out there? |
My son has Type 1 Juvenille Diabetes and now has markers for Coeliac Disease, I am wanting to find out how a 12 year old boy can deal with both issues, food and diet changes again! I am type 2 diabetic and my son is Celiac's. Removing gluten from our diet was hard, but not impossible. We use a lot of (brown) rice, and Whole Foods has several gluten free mixes for things like bread, muffins, and pizza crust that are pretty good. There are also gluten free waffles. We make pancakes using alternative flours--millet was good. There are also mixes, but they may have sugar in them. I imagine it will be a difficult adjustment, but may have the advantage of eating more whole grain carbs--just not wheat, barley, or rye. is he allergic to wheat? if he is that means no pizza, pasta, bread , anything made with flour. you must change the way you cook. no flour in gravy, no bread dressing no reg coke. coke has wheat in it. you must use carob, rice, tapioca flour. go to the library and talk to a resource librian to help you find books abou wheat allergy. it is tough but you and he together can do this. you must remember that it means his very health. this allergy is hard , i know i have it to. i also have allergy to corn, wheat, nuts all food presertives. good luck. email address whiteharleytrike@yahoo.com if you have any more questions. i will help where i can. |
