What can a person do to prevent diabetes?

What can a person do to prevent diabetes?

There is nothing you can do to actually prevent it. Both types can be genetic. In type 2, diet and exercise can help delay the development, but not prevent it. Both types are caused by the pancreas not functioning properly.

Avoid refined sugar (containing) products.

Also, artificial sweeteners like aspartame and sulfame K.

The top cause of diet induced diabetes is refined sugar. Eat plenty of fruit to replace the sweet taste desire.

In the 'west' because of the abundance of food, most people can't avoid sugar or one of the sweeteners (which give other problems). This is because the food or drink would just taste awful without it.

How does 'mechanically recovered chicken' sound to you - take a chicken, remove the meat THEN blast the bones with water to wash off what's left and 'voila' - half the contents of a hot dog.

Processed food has a lot going for it, but probably more against it.

Other than that, a balanced diet, plenty of exercise - walking fast and swimming are great if the person is not too mobile.

There are two different kinds of diabetes. Type 1 and 2. There's no way to prevent type 1. You either are genetically programmed to get it or not.

Type 2 is caused by being overweight and bad diet. You can prevent it or possibly reverse it by keeping a normal weight and having a good diet and exercise.

To prevent type 2, diet and exercise.
My doctor said To prevent type 1 eat fish or anything with Omega 3 fatties.(coated fish pills are great and they taste fine). Some virus or shots may cause you to get it, but you can never tell.

Well exercising and eating healthy always help but if you inherit it, it can be inevidable. one you have diabetes it dosent go away.

You'd better be careful of eating healthy (less sugar, salt n high calory foods), walking is good, dont smoke, dont drink alchol...
