Can you control Type 2 diabetes with just excercise and diet?

I don't want to take medication.

just wondering if it is possible

Your doctor will tell you if you need the medications and if he prescribes them, you must take them. If you get to where you are really watching your diet and exercising or walking on a regular basis, you may have to have your meds adjusted or changed as your control gets better. Some type 2 diabetics can control their disease by diet and exercise, but it is NOT true that all of them can. 83% of type 2 diabetics need medications. Those that are able to control with diet and exercise normally will need medications later in life.

Some type 2 diabetics can control with diet and exercise, but not all of them. It depends on your disease and what your pancreas is doing. Most insulin resistant type2's need medication until they get it under control. Then slowly, with a very (emphasis on very) strict diet and exercise, they may use less and less medication until they are able to continue without it. You must be very diligent to your strict routine. Later in life you may need to go back on medication, as our bodies change over time in most cases. Not all type 2's can control diabetes with just diet and exercise. There is a limited percentage of those that can do it. A great amount of people with type 2 must be on oral meds, or insulin and sometimes both.

It's possible, but it's not a matter of discipline. For Type 2, it is dependent on how much insulin you are producing and how well your cells absorb it. Even the most disciplined eaters and athletes need meds and/or insulin. It's certainly worth making the effort to control it that way, but don't feel bad about yourself in any way if you do need meds or insulin, it's not a sign of weakness like so many people seem to think. The bottom line is you need what you need, and you will be happier and healthier and you'll feel better if you take the meds you need.

Yes Type 2 diabetes can be controlled with exercise.Do it, prove it and help someone else.
These pranayam exercises will help control the diabetes and the side effects.Build up the timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume later. The benefits will be noticed in weeks as the sugar level is checked daily.Over the long tern the diabetes will be in full control and the medicine can be reduced in consultation with the doctor.

Also everyday press the centre point of the palm of your hand 40 times with the thumb and press the tips of all fingers 40 times each.

Yes, it is possible, but it's entirely dependent on your body. If you have a lot of weight to lose, then you have a good chance of being able to control it with diet and exercise alone if you lose that weight.

Even those that can eventually end up on meds as their body ages, as diabetes is a progressive disease. But you can do a lot with diet and exercise.

The important thing is to get those sugars down no matter what it takes. Think of high blood sugar as putting wear and tear on all your organs. If taking an oral med means you don't develop kidney failure, wouldn't you say it's worth it?

It is possible for some diabetics to gain control of their condition to the point that diet and exercise would be enough.

My own doctor has told be that if I could loose 25 pounds he would consider diet and exercise control of my condition. But, let give you a little history. November 2006 I was diagnosed with HbA1C of 12.1 and daily blood glucose of 600+. Today my last HbA1C was 5.6 and daily blood glucose of 110/85 morning and night.

Unfortunately I last the discipline to loose the 25 pounds. But, lately I have improve that discipline and hoped to loose the 25 pounds by the end of the summer. It's a win win goal. If I don't get to forget Meds with diet and exercise alone, I still win because I have lost the weight. I have high hope, last week my pulse was 68 with daily walking. I think for a 59 year old I can be happy with that.

Again, not everyone can do this ,but getting closer is always good.

Best Wishes.

Off course but avoid food rich in carbohydrate and take in more fruit and vegetable

We used to call Type 2 'sugar diabetes' so people still associate it with sugar, but there are other reasons why people develop it. It's a lifestyle thing i.e. stress and lack of exercise, large portions of food. Type 2 diabetes, also known as adult-onset diabetes, accounts for about 90% of all cases of the disease and the majority of deaths, though many are mistaken for heart disease, one of the many long-term problems caused by the disease. Unlike Type 1, which is usually diagnosed in childhood and requires insulin injections daily, Type 2 is the product of genetics, undetected symptoms and bad habits.
With Type 2 you do have to have a family history but now people who don't have a family history are getting the disease because of obesity. Too much fat, rather than just too much sugar, is the main trigger for getting Type 2. Studies show that carrying too much weight puts more pressure on the body's ability to produce insulin. Type 2 is a breakdown of your body's ability to produce insulin, or to effectively use the insulin that the pancreas is still able to produce.
Studies show you can do lifestyle intervention with Type 2 which means more exercise and less food. 30 minutes of exercise a day along with weight loss and a diet high in vegetables, fresh fruit and cereals can help to stop the condition deteriorating.
