Just had an A1C test for glucose and was told it came back hight? Does this mean Diabetes?

I was just told by my doctor my A1C test for glucose came back high, does this mean I have diabetes? I go back to meet with the doctor this week, but am wondering what this means?

HbA1C is not a test for diagnosing diabetes it tell how well you have managed your blood glucose for the last three months.

For diabetes dignosis you should go for fasting blood glucose. random blood glucose or OGTT.

High means it is over 7% somewhere and yes, sorry to say, but you will be told you are diabetic.

Get copies of results from doctors office for your files so you can refer back to them. This helps you to see where you need to go from here.

You will most likely be handed a couple of Rx's and recommended a food plan. Hopefully the doctor will send you to see a dietician and a Certified Diabetes Educator for lessons in how to live the rest of your life.

This is not the end of the world, tho it may seem like it. You can change your lifestyle and live to 90 years old.

You don't say just how high it was or your age . Don't panic just yet. See what the doctor has to say and what follow-up tests they want to do. If you are still not satisfied get another opinion.
