Can diabetes be passed down to your children? |
I was wondering if diabetes can be passed down to children if one of the parent had diabetes. Yes it can...and it is not a disease that likes to skip a generation either. I mean, it can, but many times it does not. Eating a good diet is a good idea, but will not stop the onset if someone is going to get it. Eating a good diet could keep the person from developing the disease earlier than he would have, but will not stop it. Diabetes (both type 1 and 2) is a problem with the pancreas. In type 1 the pancreas makes little to no insulin, so these people must take insulin injections every day and are insulin dependent. With type 2 the pancreas does several different things. First, the pancreas may be making plently of insulin, but the body does not use it correctly. This is insulin resistance and is type 2 diabetes. OR...the pancreas makes little to no insulin and the person may be treated with oral meds, insulin or both. This is also type 2. Being overweight or having a bad diet, is not the CAUSE of type 2.....it is the pancreas, just as in type 1. Diabetes can cause a person to become overweight, or lose weight. 51% of type 2 diabetics are not, or ever have been overweight. yes, diabetes can absolutely be passed down. It's caused by genetics, and poor eating habits. Both of my parents are diabetic, so everytime I go to the doctor I have to have my blood sugar checked. My doctor says more than likely I will have adult onset diabetes at some point in my life. That is why I try to eat as healthy as possible, and also teach my daughter good eating habits, so maybe we can stop this cycle well, someone told me that it is possible, that type 1 can be passed down, and may not become active, some it does when they are kids, or when they get older. also if there is a history of diabetes then your kids are at higher risk. Yes. Diabetes is hereditary and it can, and might, be passed down the family line. The more people in your family that have diabetes, the more at risk you are for having it too. Yes it can. Especially type one. Here's a site with more info: yes, i have it from my mother as it is hereditary. No big deal though if you control it rather than let it control you! Good luck! It can and can't. Sometimes it can't pass through your children but i can to your grandchildren, so watch yourself by controlling your food.=] Yes, it's hereditary Absolutely, type II diabetes is hereditary. yes it can. yes Yes, there are many studies on this. I suggest you type this in at ask.com and read about it. |
