What are your experience with the Byette pen for Type 2 Diabetes?

I just started it the other day. My doctor put me on 5 mg right now and if I feel fine with the dose he said I could start 10 mg next month. Do you experience any side effects? How much weight have you lost while on this medication?

It worked very well with me. I did not lose any weight. The normal amount of weight lose from Byetta is only 10 to 15 pounds, so it helps a little in some cases. There have been cases where people have lost a good deal of weight on Byetta, but these people were very overweight. I took 10 mg two times a day. At first I had a lot of bad nausea, but I usually just took a dramamine and that helped. It controlled my blood sugar very well. Later, my body changed and my pancreas is not producing much insulin at all now. I have to take insulin.

Byetta did not work for me, but I am severely insulin resistant. My endocrinologist put me on 5mcg then 10mcg dose and it just didn't manage my blood sugar levels the way insulin does. Now, with that said, I have two diabetic friends who love their Byetta and take it in conjunction with Glucophage, a oral medication. I am allergic to Glucophage. None of us experienced the decrease in appetite and subsequent weight loss that is suppose to occur with Byetta use.

i work in a nursing home and many of my residents on it are on it just to loose weight when on it, and honestly, it hasnt worked for any of them. most of them have gained weight than lost it. i hope that it works for you though.
