Uh, help. diabetes?

uh, i just checked my blood sugar. it was 148. i just had a little bit of ice cream. my grandpa developed diabetes at the age of 7. my mom is pre-diabetic. and my grandma has diabetes. i have been urinating a lot lately. and am always thirsty. i tend to be hungry more often too. diabetes? also, i always complain. so, my mom thinks that i am just complaining. but, im not. is there something wrong with me? and, how do i get my mom to support me?

oh, and i am 13.

With your family history, I'd definitely keep an eye on it. The reading can be perfectly normal depending on when you took it. Here are some normal levels

Non-Diabetics:
Fasting (when you get up, no food for 8-12 hours) - 70-100
Postprandial (2 hours after a meal) - under 125
Random (no matter what was eaten or how long ago) - Under 180

Pre-Diabetic:
Fasting - 100-125
Postprandial - 125-145
Random - 180-200

Diabetic:
Fasting - 126+
Postprandial - 145+
Random - 200+

Keep a log of your sugars, and if they keep falling under the Pre-diabetic or Diabetic levels, definitely go get yourself checked. This way, you'll have hard proof for your mom, and a way to show your doctor what's been going on. My mom thought I was crazy too, until I came back with my results. I'm also 19 and had to pay for it myself, but with a family history like yours, i can see why you're worried! All four of my grandparents and my dad are diabetic or pre-diabetic.

Go get checked! It's always better to be safe than sorry! Keep a log, and best of luck to you!!

I can't say anything based on one blood sugar taken after eating. You can take a fasting glucose first thing in the morning, if that's over 126, and it's repeatable on seperate days, then you have diabetes. The symptoms you have are compatible with diabetes, but they are also very nonspecific and could be the result of many other things as well, so I wouldn't worry excessively about it.
If you want to sort it out, take a fasting blood sugar level on two sucessive days, and see what you get, if you're consistantly over 100, then you might want to go to a doctor and let him know so you can undergo further testing, and if you're above 126 then you may even need treatment. But first get the information, then talk to your doctor about it.

You should be more concerned about getting your blood sugar test performed by a lab, you have classic symptoms of diabetes and it will not go away.........Everyday you go without treatment whether it be proper eating, exercise or medications or any combination there of is a day that damage is occurring to your body. Diabetes runs in your family and you know it's hereditary, now is the time to do something about it, not 10 years from now. You may even feel fine but the damage is still occurring.

Please help yourself, no one else can.

Diabetes is the only disease that the patient is 98% in charge of, you go to doctors for advice and medications but it's up to you to take care of it.

Good luck

Go see the doctor tomorrow. You have a family history of type I plus the classic early symptoms. Why wait any longer. If you have diabetes, the earlier you catch it the better. There are studies being done all around the country on newly diagnosed diabetics to help preserve beta cell function. Every day you wait is a loss to you.

Life with diabetes is not unmanageable. I understand you might be afraid to get the answers but once you know one way or another you can move on.

you are still young.....Yach you have risk factor of diabetes cause history family with diabetes.... but I think you are still normal......you need to act for prevention...oke...good exercise, good diet and enjoy your life

well its possibeyou have them now but you need your blood sugar scale. You need to know what the rate is . And i garenty you that you will have it..
