Please answer......what is "non sugar diabetes" about?

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?...

I am not sure about the terms "non sugar" but "sugar" diabetes in a very anciet term no longer used in medicine. Nows its Type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.

A simple overview: glucose ( a sugar molecule) and other carbohydrates are one type of fuel that the body uses to do all its processes (the most important fuel. The others are fats & proteins). Insulin is a hormone made in the pancreas that allows glucose to get into the body's cells for fuel. Without insulin, the sugar is locked out and just remains in the blood. So type 1 is the type you are generally born with or develop very young (also known as juvenile type or insulin dependent). These people must take insulin shots to help process sugars. If not, their blood sugar levels become sky-high.

The second type of diabetes (type 2 or adult-onset or the current term non-insulin dependent diabetes); adults develop a resistance to their insulin; so they take pills to help their own insulin work, (Now this is a very simplified explanation).

So you can see that there is really no Cure per se, but treatment (unless you can get a pnacreas or insulin-producing cell-transplant which is more experimental right now).

There is also a disease called diabetes insipidus which is a completely different disease & has absolutely nothing to do with sugar at all.

maybe diabetes insipidus. That kind of diabetes has nothing to do with a persons blood sugar. Type 1 and type 2 diabetes fall under diabetes mellitus.

never heard of that term but i would think it is referring to diabetes insipidus
