Dogs with diabetes?

Is there a cure for dogs with diabetes? And what's insulin for if it doesn't cure diabetes?

hi pinto, i have a basset hound that was dxed a few months ago with diabetes. there is no cure for it. the insulin is because the pancreas isn't producing enough so you have to do a urine dip stick test (put a bowl under your dog when he/she pees), the put the test strip in and match it against the bottle. based upon the results, you have to increase or decrease the amt. of insulin you inject into your dog.

oh, and if your dog crashes due to low sugar, rub Kayo corn syrup on the gums and then tongue. wait 5 minutes to see if he snaps out of it. you will know when it happens. the first time it happened to me i was scared but the ERvet tech talked me through it on the phone.

my dog crashed a 2nd time last month but i knew the symptoms and it didn't last long. he's doing great now but i still have to monitor him. no more table scraps, no sweets, and talk to your vet on what to feed him.
