Is type-2 diabetes a curable disease? |
Is type-2 diabetes a curable disease? The disease can go into remission, even permanent remission, through weight loss (if you are very overweight). If you're not overweight, then the chances that a dietary change could result in remission are smaller. But we don't talk about cure (though permanent remission means you're basically cured). Type 2 diabetes is often called adult onset. It is NOT always brought about by obesity. However, those who are over weigh can benefit greatly by exercising and losing weight. even a 10 - 20% weight reduction goes a long ways in controlling. sometimes yes. sometimes no. almost all cases of type 2 diabetes are brought on because the person becomes overweight, thus their body can no longer sustain the demand for sugar/energy that they are used too. those cases are curable by...losing weight. Other cases where the pancreas just slowly loses its ability to create insulin usually aren't. Eating a low carb diet will rest your pancreas and giving your cells a break from insulin, this will reset your insulin resistance. Kind of like a bad smell in your house, you lose your ability to smell it after prolonged exposure, but go outside for awhile, the ability to smell returns. I would call this a cure, but every person is moving toward insulin resistance even before birth. When your resistance is greater than your pancreases ability to make insulin, you are diabetic. If you do not know your fasting insulin level, you could be days away from being diabetic. Yes. Curable and preventable: lots of exercise, proper eating, no junk food, and maintaining proper weight. Here's a really good site that might help you with your question: http://www.healthlessonsonline.com/ Not really. Some folks who have type 2 diabetes due to obesity can get much better if they lose weight, but not all type 2 folks are overweight. yes but you wont get it from your doctor your pharmacist or any prescription drug. why because if you are cured then they wont make any more money off of your illness. not curable but controlable with diet and exercise. But this is all done under strict watch of a doctor. |
