Diabetes and blood sugar?

Why is it that if diabetics produce too much blood sugar due to a lack of insulin, that they should always have a piece of candy on hand in case their sugar goes low? If their bodies produce too MUCH sugar, how does their sugar get so low?

We don't produce too much sugar. We just don't produce insulin or lack the ability to use the insulin we do make.
Sugar[ simple glucose ] needs to get into out cells to give us energy.
Sugar cannot get into the cells with out insulin.
In that case [ diabetes ] the sugar runs high to ruins all our organs.
We take insulin or oral meds to help the insulin get into the cells.
We may inject too much or take an extra exercise and our sugars can get too low. Some times it is hard to tell how our medications will work.
If we go very low,we need a source of sugar to use up the insulin and return our sugar levels to normal.

Diabetics can have a sugar crash if their insulin levels get unbalanced. If they don't eat right, if they take to much medicine, if they don't get enough sleep.....being diabetic basically means your levels go to high but that doesn't mean they can't crash. My mom is diabetic as is my grandma and grandpa. They all have sugar crashes sometimes that require them to eat a piece of candy or drink a small glass of OJ. It is just like if you were to pig out on a bunch of sweets and your sugar level will go up extremly high then you don't have sugar for awhile so it crashes down really fast.

Their bodies only produce too much sugar because of the foods they eat. When a diabetic eats to many starches or too much sugar then their blood sugar gets too high. But if they don't eat enough food and their blood sugar gets to low and they need to eat something that can raise their blood sugar quickly. If you have it under control in some cases you don't need to use insulin shots. Online you can find tons of info, and bunches of websites that explain in detail and may have more details. Hope this helped!!

Their bodies don't "balance" things like healthy peoples bodies do. Insulin administration can cause blood sugar to drop too low. There has to be balance!
