Anger in Diabetes, Does anyone have any advice?

Hi My partner is type 1 diabetic. When we argue and his sugars are normal he walks away however on a few occasions when we have rowed and his sugars are high he has got violent with me. Is there anything he can do to control this or is it really a symptom of his diabetes? Will this keep happening? please help

Violence is not a symptom of diabetes but after your arguments your partner may feel very stressed and that can cause blood sugars to sky rocket which in turn may have some physical/mental effects on the condition.

If your partners blood sugar dropped that is a hypoglycemia and could make your partner very irritable thus causing his behavior.

As a type 1 diabetic I can tell you I have the same problem. I don't necessary get violent but when my sugars are high I'm super angry, like now. I do recall several times in my life where I have struck out at people.
If things are bad ask him to test his sugar. You can also keep an eye on what he eats when you are around. The best thing to watch out for are high carbohydrate foods, IE, potatoes, breads, pastas.
Most times now my family can tell by my attitude and the expression on my face and they stay away. If I am not provoked I will be much happier.
Hope that I have helped.

Changes in blood pressure and other body chemestries can cause the sugars to fluctuate. Some doctors will say there's no connection between temper control or stress and controlling sugar counts but from personal experience over the last 26 years I've found that's just NOT true in my case, at least.

If I can remain cool, calm and confident I don't have a lot of problems with control but when stress level goes up to high for to long and tempers flare it's UP, UP, UP sugar goes.

My suggestion is to try to keep confrontations to a minimum and if you have to WALK AWAY before you start to argue.

Hope this helps you in some way.
