Gestational diabetes and bad mood?

I'm 38 weeks pregnant and I've been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. For some reason, and I'm not sure if it's when my sugar is too high or too low, but if I'm late getting a meal I'm thrown into a horrible mood. I don't know why, I've never been like this. I feel horrible for my husband. Is this normal? Is this something I can control? Is it normal?

I used to get very weepy if my sugar dropped too low. Sounds and noises irritated me when it got high. It could also be that your body is reacting to the restricted diet you are probably eating. A lower carb intake can cause irritability. Particularly when you are already hungry. The pregnancy and all the lovely hormones that go with it and the expectation and waiting could also be playing a role. Hang in there you're at the finish line now. When your mood is good and stable tell your husband often how much you appreciate and love him.

Yes, diabetics do get crabby if they don't eat. My sister in law is almost unbearble if she does not eat when she is supposed to.

Truly, you need to eat on a schedule and arrange your life around your eating. The good news is that once you have the baby your body will return to its original state but the bad news is you are now at a higher risk of developing diabetes as you age. Exercise and eat right to reduce your risk. If you are overweight, make it a priority to get that under control. Obesity and diabetes are good friends and most obese people usually develop diabetes. Too many carbs and sugars wear out your pancreas (make it work way too hard) and make the body inefficient in receiving and using glucose. Get educated about Type 2 diabetes and do your best to stop it from happening, especially regarding weight issues. My best to you and your new baby!! Eat on a schedule!! 3 healthy meals and 2 healthy snacks. Remember you are not eating for two people only one so make smart choices.

well im 19 and never been pregnant but yes when your blood sugar is not normal it can make you moody happens to me alot

also your pergnant its very normla to be moody because your body is going threw a HUGE change

dont worry when you have your wondeful son or daughter you should be back
and congrats on the baby

Just check your sugar when you are uncertain of what they are and treat appropriately.
You are at the end of gestational diabetes and going to be a mother very soon.
Congratulations.

Yes. If your blood sugar gets too low or even too high then irritability is a side effect. You can control it by eating 6 small meals a day to keep your blood sugar at a therapeutic level.
