Is ear piercing a risk with type 2 diabetes and why?

Is ear piercing a risk with type 2 diabetes and why?

Diabetics can have difficulty with wound healing, which is of course a major problem in piercing. However, it CAN be safe to pierce- the most important part is that your a1c is completely comparable to a non-diabetic, ie, 6% or lower. Talk toyour doctor and ask for a note before you go in- any responsible piercer will NOT pierce a diabetic before they've consulted with a doctor.

But pleasepleaseplease do NOT get your ears pierced with a gun, like at the mall. Go to a professional piercer who uses real, STERILE, sharp needles- not some teenager at claire's who has had two weeks training piercing teddy bears.

I have successfully had my ears x5, labret, nipples, and vhc done, each without major complications. My a1c is always 5.9 or lower.

ETA: the below answerer is absolutely, entirely wrong. You should NEVER clean a piercing with alcohol. Unless your piercer suggests otherwise, use sea salt (not table) and warm water.

If you have your sugar under control I don't think so because if you pierce your ear It doesnt come out blood like a tattoo.

But after the piercing you should clean your ear with alcohol to avoid infections, that yes, could be a risk with your situtation

It might be coz the healing can take a long time and if your sugar in not under control it may be worst
