Recovering from a surgery and has diabetes?

A person who has diabetes and his recovering from a surgery where they remove there bowel. what do u think is best meal plan

I'm a type 2 and I had emergency bowel surgery. Let me tell you, it is not simple and you will have to follow what the surgeon says. It's strictly liquids at first. I had a problem with the hospital's version of the liquid diet: juice, popsicles, and jello, all full of sugar. I tried it the first day and predictably had high blood sugar. But I got the nurses to switch out the sugary versions for sugar-free jello, then stuck to broth and decaf tea (nothing in the tea) and that kept my blood sugars from going up.

It's a delicate balance of your medication, the stress from surgery, and the healing bowel. I don't think the answers you'll get here will be nearly enough to work in this situation. Follow the doctor's orders, make sure the patient tests their blood sugar often.

You have to consult closely with the dietician and the doctor. This is not a choice type scenerio for most of us.

My friend who had cancer surgery and lost part of her bowel and is type 1 person, could eat anything she could keep down and it didn't bother her glucose levels. Cancer has some strange effects on insulin requirements.
