What is diabetes and why is it bad?

Diabetes is when your body cannot utilize insulin properly or when the pancreas no longer produces insulin. Insulin regulates blood sugar. Extremes of too much or too little insulin can be deadly. Long term highs and lows (not controlling blood sugar) can cause organ damage.

diabetes (Greek: 未喂伪尾萎蟿畏蟼), is a syndrome characterized by disordered metabolism and abnormally high blood sugar (hyperglycaemia) resulting from insufficient levels of the hormone insulin.[2] The characteristic symptoms are excessive urine production (polyuria) due to high blood glucose levels, excessive thirst and increased fluid intake (polydipsia) attempting to compensate for increased urination, blurred vision due to high blood glucose effects on the eye's optics, unexplained weight loss, and lethargy. These symptoms are likely to be less apparent if the blood sugar is only mildly elevated.

It's bad because people can get in a coma from diabetes, or even die. It's also bad because they have to stick to such a strict diet. If your a brittle diabetic, then you have to give yourself injections AND stick to a strict diet. Luckily though, this disease is not contagious.

It is a disorder of the endocrine system.
Type 1 is usually diagnosed at a young age, often needs insulin control and is usually caused by an inability of the body to produce insulin in sufficient amounts for the body's needs.

Type 2 can arise any time and is often linked with lifestyle.
Obesity, lack of exercise, diet all contribute. Often treated with tablets.

It is a big deal because the sugars in your body need to stay within an ideal range. When they fluctuate it puts a lot of pressure on the other body systems - circulatory; renal; cardiac - and in time can destroy the kidneys; eyes; cause heart problems; contribute to cholesterol issues; damage the arteries and veins which can lead to diabetic ulcers which can lead to amputation ultimately.

Anyone diagnosed with diabetes needs to adhere to all of the lifestyle and diet conditions and endeavour to maintain a healthy blood glucose level. Those who don't ineveitably finish up with very major health issues by the time they hit their mid 30s.

Diabetes is a disorder that affects the way your body uses food for energy. Normally, the sugar you take in is digested and broken down to a simple sugar, known as glucose. The glucose then circulates in your blood where it waits to enter cells to be used as fuel. Insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas, helps move the glucose into cells. A healthy pancreas adjusts the amount of insulin based on the level of glucose. But, if you have diabetes, this process breaks down, and blood sugar levels become too high.

There are two main types of full-blown diabetes. People with Type 1 diabetes are completely unable to produce insulin. People with Type 2 diabetes can produce insulin, but their cells don't respond to it. In either case, the glucose can't move into the cells and blood glucose levels can become high. Over time, these high glucose levels can cause serious complications.

Short-term complications of diabetes, such as hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, and ketoacidosis, can happen quickly. Patients need to be aware of their signs and symptoms and what to do to reverse them. Long-term complications, such as heart disease, kidney disease, and neuropathy, can seriously compromise a patient with diabetes.

You could go blind and get gangreen in you arms and legs and have them cut off. If that isn't bad what is? It depletes vitamins and causes neuropathy nerve damage. It also means your prone to more infections. If you ever had an infection you know not good. Your blood sugar levels can't regulate themselves it messes with your insulin level. Fat people, people who are genetically prone to it more likely to get it smoking and drinking make it worse so does being fat. So if you have it you have to give it up or you'll die.

diabetes is when your body doesnt produce insulin or enough insulin and you take either insulin injections or pills depending on what type you have. its not bad its a treatable condition, you just have to find a way to cope and take any support you can get. sometimes its hard but dont look at it as bad.

Its a disease where your body can't regulate sugar correctly because it doesn't release enough insulin. It's bad because it puts a strain on all of your other organs, makes it hard to lose weight, and can be life threatening.
