How do you die from diabetes?

ok, so I was at my softball practice this morning and found out that my friend had gotten diabetes. Now I'm no stranger to diabetes my Grandmother has it and so does another one of my friends. i was just wondering how long does it take you, if you have really high blood sugar or really low blood sugar, how long can you go on like that until you get sick? And until you die?
Thanks a lot...

She could live to be 100, but only if she takes care of herself, monitors her disease, and eats right. If she doesn't do those things, then she could start having major problems quickly, like blindness, loss of legs, kidney failure, those kinds of things. Which is why it's important to be vigilant.

Hi im 18 and i have type 1 diabetes and have only had it for 4 months. when i was diagnosed (announced) that i had type 1 i was unfamiliar with it. My test results showed i was running in the 550+ for 5months before and i asked my doctor what would happen if i didnt treat it she said that i was lucky to be alive right now. When you are diabetic it is critical to keep your sugars where they are at When ever a diabetic is over 250 the person is in EXTREMELY high risk in going into a coma. But when low sugars appear the person is at high risk of having a seizure. i hope i answered your question carefully.

getting killed its god wish how and when and where.....but simply ,low blood sugar cauld be fatal and you should give them oral sugar if you find them in coma, for hyperglycemia it cauld take up to 15 years from onset of diabetes with control to appear the complications and with good follow up it cauld be good condition with the complications for other 15years.if you have diabetes then you are already sick

I have been type 1 for 38 yrs. I have been all over the board with my sugars. Throughout college I ate and drank what ever I wanted. While pregnant I was perfect. A 5.3 A1C. And at the age of 39 I was diagnosed with Autonomic Neuropathy. My blood pressure is so low I can't stand longer then 5 minutes without passing out. I have a 2% chance of living longer then 5 yrs. That's one way both types die.

If you don't control it, it will damage blood vessels, resulting in heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, and infections/amputaitons. Here's a really good site that might help you with your question: http://www.healthlessonsonline.com/

go here and read the whole site:

It will help you to educate yourself on diabetes. You yourself have a 20% better chance of getting it than others without grandmothers who are diabetic.

Usually fat, ugly, and miserable.
