When you go into a doctor's office and have diabetes...?

They always ask you to take off your shoes and socks?

The connective tissue in the feet can be affected by diabetes, especially after many years of the disease. In the hands and feet there is a layer of collagen (fascia) under the skin. Thickening of this fascia in the hands leads to a condition called Dupuytren鈥檚 contractures, causing an inability to straighten 铿乶颅gers, and also a condition called trigger 铿乶ger. When the condition gets severe, surgery may be necessary. Dupuytren鈥檚 contractures occur in the absence of diabe颅tes, but it is about 铿?ve times as common in people with diabetes. An in铿?ammation of the fascia in the foot can lead to a condition called plantar fasciitis, causing heel pain severe enough to prevent walking.

We diabetics are prone to foot infections, as well as neuropathy. If the neuropathy has begun, we can have cuts and infections on our feet and not even realize it. Many doctors check for foot health, for skin health, and then even check to see if your nerves are healthy (neuropathy is basically nerve death, a lack of feeling, or the asleep feeling, that does not go away!) That is why!

Diabetes affect your nervous system and it is associated with some loss of feeling, mainly in the legs.

A diabetic is always adviced to cover his feet at home and keep them warm.

Are you asking if they do? Or are you asking why? If they do ask you, I would assume it's so they can look at your feet. Diabetics can injure their feet and not realize it until it gets serious.
