Can diabetes be prevented if yuo think it just started?

mila !
Yes it can be managed with the help of diet and exercise. There are many who have done this , you can see at

I'm not sure who gave Kathy a thumbs down, but she's provided the most accurate answer so far.

You can't prevent diabetes ... either type 1 or type 2 if you think it's just started, as that means you've already got it.

Some obese type 2 diabetics are able, with suitable weight loss and the taking of more exercise, to temporarily 'reverse' the high blood sugar levels but, inevitably, they will go on to develop it again at some later point in their life.

Although Kathy mentions pancreas transplants being a 'cure' for type 1 diabetes, for the number of operations that have taken place around the world, the success rate is not high. Currently, there are operations being done around the world where islet cells (islets of Langerhans ... the insulin-producing beta cells from the pancreas) are being transplanted into the livers of recipients. Even that is proving not as successful as was originally hoped for as the human body's own defences [defenses, if you're American] try to kill what it sees as an invading force. There are now experiments taking place whereby the donor's islet cells are being enveloped in an extract from seaweed, which, hopefully, will prevent this rejection.

If you do believe that you might have diabetes ... whether type 1 or type 2, please do go see your doctor. The sooner treatment begins, the better chance of you not developing complications.

There is no cure for diabetes of either type, other than a pancreas transplant, and it can not be prevented through diet. It is a genetic disease most of the time. Some type 2 diabetes can be controlled with diet and exercise, but the majority of these people must take medications of some sort.

I assume you are talking about type 2, adult onset. You should really get tested. You could ease your mind if you don't really have it, or you will know what you're up against if you do.

Believe me as a type 2 knowing for sure is way better than not knowing. You can control it without meds if you are very careful with your diet and are sure to exercise every day.

Really, you need to know what you're up against. I recommend Atkins Diabetes Revolution. This includes an excellent livable diet for controlling diabetes and information about what foods are creating the problem besides the obvious sugar.

If you do have it then the best you can hope for is to control it.

You really don't know how long you might have had it already. Cell damage is already occurring, Please do yourself a favor and get checked soon.

Type 1 diabetes, or juvinile diabletes, there is no known cause or cure. The treatment is injection of human insuline because peple with type 1 cannot produce it.

Type 2 diabetics, upon onset, can almost cure themselves with a "diabetic diet" and excersize. I know plenty of diabetics who live full lives.

BTW. as americans get fatter, type 2 diabetics are on the rise. If you have any money to invest, invest in medical companies who deal with diabetes.

Diabetes can be control with diet, exercise and medications.

If you think you have diabetes go have yourself tested.

Signs included...excessive urination, extreme thirst, tingling in hands and feet, blurred vision, tired, loss of weight.

What type of diabetes do you think it is? Type 1 cannot be prevented, though you'll probably suffer more from type 2.
Stay low on the carbohydrates.
