Can you get diabetes from stress?

Can you get diabetes from stress? If the body attacks cells, like in diabetes, isn't that an allergic reaction? I developed allergies (outdoor) from stress, can I get diabetes too or is that a disease you are born with? (I'm not overweight but I stopped exercising-I'm trying to get back into exercising)

It does attack cells:

"In Type 1 diabetes the cells in the pancreas that make insulin are destroyed, causing a severe lack of insulin. This is thought to be the result of the body attacking and destroying its own cells in the pancreas - known as an autoimmune reaction."

Stress does not cause diabetes, but stress does cause high blood sugars.

The difference is that when you get rid of the stress, the blood sugars will go down by themselves, without treatment. If you have diabetes, the blood sugars stay high, and you need medications or insulin.

Yes, one way of thinking of diabetes is as an autoimmune disease -- the body is attacking and destroying its own cells. It is in effect like the body would attack an organ that has been transplanted from another body.

But this doesn't affect the diabetic directly. Diabetes is Diabetes. The fact that is is an auto-immune disease is of concern to those scientists that are looking for a cure. This way of looking at diabetes might leadsthem down new, possibly effective paths for new treatments, possibly even a cure.

Stress is one of many factors that contributes to weaken body in which diabetes can result. Reduce the factors and diabetes is less to be an end result. Exercise is the single action you can take to reduce diabetes.

Best Wishes.

First of all......When it comes to diabetes, the body does not attack cells, but I'm of the belief that stress can trigger diabetes, not cause it.

The immune system can attack certain areas of your body and stress does effect sugar levels. You really should consult your doctor and ask about your concerns. Best of Luck.

well i don't think it is stress it is probabally something that is in your blood... and how much surger you eat and stuff.. but i hope i helped you.

I agree with Gary B.

I have Type 2, and I have noticed that when I am stressed my blood sugar does go up.
