Help! Could it be diabetes?

I'm 14 I was just tested for diabetes, and then the labs lost the blood samples. For the last few months I've noticed that I've been peeing A LOT and drinking non stop. I've also had 0 energy to do anything. Like before I could do around 50 push-ups now I can only do around 10 with out collapsing. I've also been in a terrible mood no matter what and I don't what I weighed before all this but I do know my pants are all getting looser on me. And for the past week or so I've been feeing so sick and tired I can barely get out of bed in the morning! My mom and dad do not seem to be concerned at all and won't take me back to the doctor's to re-do the blood test. If anybody could give me some advice and maybe tell me if I should be concerned, that would be great! Thank you!

Yes those would be the classic symptoms of diabetes.

I'm not sure what to tell you about getting your parents to take you back, though. If you really feel like you can't ask them, perhaps there is another adult in your life that can help you out? Teacher, counselor, coach?

Shame they lost the blood... but I'd suggest that yes, you might want to run those tests again.

Frequent urination, fatigue and excessive thirst are definitely signs of Diabetes. However you really need to have a fasting glucose and an A1c blood test at your doctors office for an accurate diagnosis. If you are able to contact your Doctor on your own, I would suggest that you do set up an appointment for evaluation. Perhaps if you explain to your parents about your symptoms and they can feel how concerned you are about your health, they will change their mind and take you. I sure hope so!

Do your parents realize that diabetes can cause blindness, kidney damage or loss of limbs? Talk to them NOW and get those tests done. In the meantime, there are lots of web sites where you can get advice on how to manage your disease. Start with the American Diabetes Association. Hopefully you can manage it with diet and exercise. Bless you, best of luck.

No more candy or jelly donuts and drink only diet soda. Get the school nurse to give you a quick blood sugar test, it takes a minute.
