Do I have diabetes of pre-diabetes?

I went to the doctor because I got dizzy while driving. My blood pressure was OK, so he said it might be my blood sugar. I had breakfast that morning and my blood sugar tested at 91. He said that he still wanted to run the 3-month glucose test (I think it's called AC1?). Is there a possibility I could still have diabetes or pre-diabetes even though my random (non-fasting) sugar tested at 91 just 2-3 hours after breakfast? Thanks so much for any guidance!!

you really need to take the fasting glucose test. blood sugars change constantly when you are eating. Good luck!

You almost got it correct -- the 3 month glucose test is called an A1C.
2 hours after a meal your blood sugar should be less than 140 to be in good control. Yours was. However, the doctor may want to do the A1C just to rule diabetes out, since obviously something was wrong to make you feel dizzy. Don't worry about it until you get a diagnoses -- it may be fine. And if not, it may not be too bad and you'll be able to control it with diet and exercise alone. Good luck to you.

The only way to truly tell if you are diabetic is with a glucose tolerance test. This is where you drink something that taste like orange pop, then they take your blood 1/2 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours and so on.

My fasting blood sugars are always normal its my AC1 that isn't. I would ask him to go for the glucose tolerance test.

The Normal Blood Sugar is Between 80-120. But, It Should Be Slightly Raised after meals. I Think You Could Have Hypoglycemia, rather than Diabetes.

91 sounds good. Maybe too much coffee?
